At Active Physiotherapy we treat every patient as an individual so you can be sure to receive a treatment programme specific to your individual needs. To book an appointment call either our Bury (Whitefield) Physio clinic or our Bolton Physio clinic.

Our physiotherapists emphasise treating the whole person rather than just “the condition” We have vast experience in treating patients with a wide variety of problems and we use this experience and expertise to plan the very best treatment for you!

Therefore depending on your specific needs you can expect one or more the following treatment options. As a general rule we will use a combination of hands on and hands off treatment options to ensure that we are doing everything we can to get you better as soon as possible.

These are small but precise passive movements performed by your therapist. They are usually applied as a series of gentle stretches around a joint in a smooth, rhythmic motion. They can be applied in various locations around a joint and in various directions. They are aimed at receiving restrictions around that particular joint and help to restore full range of movement. Mobilisations are administered at varying degrees of pressure through different ranges of movement. More gentle mobilisations are administered for pain relief whilst stronger mobilisations are used to restore movement.

This treatment technique involves the opening up of a joint to the end of its range and giving a short, sharp, but controlled thrust. It is often accompanied by a pop or click which is the result of a release of pressure in the joint. These techniques are the same ones performed by chiropractors and osteopaths. However manipulations are not always an appropriate treatment to use which is why we take such an individualised approach to patient care.

Soft tissue massage

This is the application of touch and force to the soft tissues in the body such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. There are many different massage techniques that we use with our patients that are detailed more fully on our Sports Massage page. Your condition may require massage for lymphatic drainage increasing muscle pliability and range, removal of scar tissue or to release muscular trigger points.
