Headaches and Migraines
Headaches and Migraines can be regular and recurrent problems for many people.
There can be many different causes for headaches and migraines and these often very debilitating conditions. One area that is frequently overlooked is the neck.
How does physiotherapy help Headaches and Migraines?
Often in clinic we see patients with migraines and headaches and are able to treat them very successfully. Sometimes we are able to establish permanent relief within just one session of treatment using just one correction of the position of one cervical (neck) vertebra. Stiffness or locking of one or more of the joints in the neck can often be the cause of these conditions. Your physiotherapist at Active Physio will be able to free these joints and significantly reduce if not eliminate your pain.
The muscles in the neck and shoulders can also often be the source of headaches or migraines, especially those triggered by stress and/or anxiety. Your physiotherapist will be able to use soft tissue release techniques to loosen and relax these muscles to relieve your pain. Even when not the main source of pain the release of the joints and muscles in the neck can give patients significant pain relief. Acupuncture is another treatment method that can be used to good effect in providing relief from migraines and headaches. You can learn more about acupuncture by clicking here.
